The members of Redbird mens tennis team will rely on the leadership of four returning seniors, Marek Blaskovic, Ciaran Foley, Andy Martin and Jason Smit as they open the fall season this weekend in a 13-team invitational tournament at Ball State.
The Redbirds will compete Friday through Sunday at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center and Woodworth Tennis Courts, both in Muncie, Indiana.
The tournament includes three draws of 32 singles each (Flights A, B, and C) plus three draws of 16 doubles each (Flights A, B, and C). Championship and consolation finals will be played for both the singles and doubles. Competition begins with one round of doubles Friday at 8:30 a.m., followed by two rounds of singles. Play will resume Saturday and Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. each day.
Among the teams competing with the Redbirds in the tournament are Missouri Valley Conference foes Drake, Indiana State and Southern Illinois. Michigan State from the Big Ten also is scheduled to compete.
Along with the returning seniors, Ben Cappuccitti, a sophomore returning from last years team, and two newcomers, Benjamin Pettinari and Djordje Uskokovic, will round out this years roster. Brent Steven will be redshirted for the upcoming season following knee surgery.
