Senior Jenny Kabbes collected her second Missouri Valley Conference honor of the week Thursday when she was named Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
The 1998 Bloomington Central Catholic High School graduate already was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week for volleyball after a .500 hitting percentage, 4.5 kills and 2.5 blocks per game to lead her team to road wins at Evansville and Southern Illinois. Currently No. 2 in career block assists at Illinois State, Kabbes classroom numbers look mighty good, too. She is already attending graduate school at Illinois State, having collected her B.S. in Business Administration in May with a 3.35 cumulative grade point average.
Kabbes will lead Illinois State into a four-match homestand starting with Valley foes Wichita State Friday at 7 p.m. and Southwest Missouri State Saturday at 7 p.m. in Redbird Arena. Bradley soccer player Tim Regan also was named a Prairie Farms Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
Each week, the Valley staff selects two student-athletes nominated by league member schools, regardless of sport, based on their academics (minimum 3.00 cumulative grade point average) and athletics performance. Candidates also must have completed at least one year at the Valley member institution with sophomore athletic eligibility.
