Kenny Fills Pitching/Assistant Coach Void at Illinois State

Seth Kenny, who joins Illinois State head coach Jim Brownlee and his son assistant coach Tim Brownlee, was recently named an assistant baseball coach by the ISU athletic department. He will work primarily with the Redbird pitchers. I feel that this is a great hire, not only from my standpoint as a head coach, but also for the department, said Jim Brownlee. He is an excellent recruiter, especially in the Chicago area, and did a great job with the pitchers at Austin Peay for the last couple seasons. Prior to coming to Illinois State, Kenny served two seasons as an assistant baseball coach in charge of pitching at Austin Peay State. In 2000, he also worked as the pitching coach for the Danville Dans, a summer league baseball team that competes in the Central Illinois Collegiate League. Kenny was a pitcher at Eastern Michigan from 1995 until 1998 before moving on to the Oakland As organization. In 1999, he played for the Modesto As, a Class-A affiliate, of the California League before leaving to pursue a career in coaching. For me, this is the next step up for the career path I want to take, said Kenny. I was hoping to be in a situation like this, but I didnt think it would come this soon. I am so fortunate to have run into Coach Brownlee and be hired by Illinois State. The Novato, Calif., native earned his bachelors degree from Eastern Michigan in 1998.
