The Gateway Football Conference recognized Illinois State senior running back Quincy Washington and sophomore kicker Stephen Carroll for their efforts this weekend in the Redbirds 55-10 victory over Quincy by being named offensive player of the week and special teams players of the week, respectively.
Washington ran for 210 yards against the Hawks Saturday at Hancock Stadium and scored two touchdowns. It was a career-high for the Champaign, Ill. native and his first career 100-yard rushing game as a Redbird. His 210-yard performance marks the first 200-yard performance by a Bird since Willie Watts ran for 200 yards against Indiana State on Nov. 10, 2001.
It was Washingtons eighth and ninth touchdown of his career and his rushing total ranks 7th in the ISU record books for yards in a game.
Carroll broke his personal best with a 48-yard field goal in the fourth quarter of Saturdays game before topping that mark with a Hancock Stadium record and career-long 53-yard field goal with 9:32 remaining in the game.
The OFallon, Ill. natives kick stands as the second longest in Redbird history and is tied for 10th best in Gateway history. In addition to breaking the stadium record for longest kick, Carroll tied Todd Kurz for third all-time in single-game points with 13. He had seven PATs and two field goals in ISUs home opener.
