Redbird Gymnasts Hope to Combine Confidence and Consistency for Win

Head coach Beth Larson feels that confidence and consistency are the keys to success for the Redbird gymnastics team Sunday as it takes on Southeast Missouri State in a 2 p.m. meet in Cape Girardeau, Mo. This week in practice, weve been working on the details and corrections that we needed to fix from last weekend, Larson said. Going into the second meet, were focused on the meet itself, but we have confidence from our success last weekend under our belts. Larson expects big contributions from Denise Houda, last weeks all-around winner, and the four other seniors, as well as the underclassmen who stepped up last weekend to cushion the Redbird win. We had great showings from many of our girls last week, so we want to build upon that, Larson said. Plus, were always excited to compete at SEMO. Its always fun, because there are familiar faces at a familiar place. Its a place where we compete every year, so it allows us to have that home away from home feeling. Houda shared Larsons sentiment. Were really excited for our first away meet, and I think were really prepared for this weekend, Houda commented. We know what to expect. We just need to be consistent and stay confident in everything we do. Were at a good place after our first meet, junior Courtney Johnson added. Ive seen us make a lot of improvements in the gym. I just think well have an even better meet this week, because weve made the changes we needed to from last week. The Redbirds will host Illinois next Saturday at 4 p.m.
