Illinois State diver Krystal Featherston swept the diving competition by winning both boards to key the Redbirds to an 88-192 win over Illinois-Chicago, Friday, in the final home meet of the season.
Featherston started the night by taking first on the 1-meter board with a score of 259.875, which was good enough to advance her to the NCAA Zone C Meet in March. A score of 255 is needed to qualify.
Redbird diving coach Laura Segerlin is not only excited about Featherstons performance, but the teams as well.
Krystal really showed her true potential as a collegiate diver, said Segerlin. Its important for the girls to build on this and keep the ball rolling.
Featherston also claimed first on the 3-meter board with a score of 264.225 with teammate Alison Kouba finishing in third.
On the swimming side, seniors Angie Rawlins, Nicole DuCharme and Andrea Neubauer captured a slew of first-place finishes in their last home meet of their careers. Rawlins and Neubauer teamed up with Stefanie Starck and Monique Witkowski to win the first event of the night, the 200 medley relay, in a time of 1:51.71.
DuCharme claimed an individual first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:16.45, and second-place finishes in the 100 free and 100 fly.
Julie Cocks also turned in some great performances by claiming first in the 200 back and 100 butterfly, and taking second in the 200 freestyle.
Illinois State head coach
Steve Paska was pleased with the effort of his team.
It was the seniors moment to shine, said Paska. Everybody came out of this meet with something to be proud of tonight.
