Redbird Swimming and Diving Takes Third At Bill Ritter Invite

Despite three individual top-place finishes by Julie Cocks, Illinois States swimming and diving team slipped from second to third in the point standings at the end of day two of the Bill Ritter Invite in Milwaukee, Wis. Cocks was second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:46.19, third in the 200 fly (2:16.20) and sixth in the 200 back (2:14.17). Illinois State head coach Steve Paska was pleased with the amount of points Cocks posted for the team. Julie (Cocks) swam a lot of events for us tonight and when you swim as many as she did, youre not going to post some of the times you want, said Paska. She did well and placed really well for us, though. Other highlights on the night include freshman Katie Finans two third-place finishes in the 200 free and 1650 free. Angie Rawlins had another solid performance posting the third fastest time in the 100 breast and the fourth best in the 200 breast. Host Wisconsin-Milwaukee won the six team meet with 872 points, closely followed by Wisconsin-Green Bays 858.50 and Illinois State in third posting 682.50. Northern Iowa came in fourth with 561 points, Illinois-Chicago 473, Butler 233 and Marquette 35. This was the last meet before the Redbirds compete at the Missouri Valley Championships February 20-22, in Carbondale, Ill.
