Redbirds Go Down to No. 3 Georgia

Illinois State womens tennis team was unable to win a match against nationally-ranked No. 3 Georgia, as they fell 7-0 Sunday afternoon at the Mickel Tennis Center. The Redbirds Liina Suurvarik had a challenging defeat against the No. 1 ranked player in the country Agata Cioroch. Cioroch defeated Suurvarik in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Suurvarik and Alesia Mikalayeva dropped their doubles set in a challenging tie breaker to Lori Grey and Tina Hojnik 9-8 (7-1). Head coach Chris Hoover felt that the team improved their play, but that Georgia was more talented overall. Overall we played better as a team, Hoover said. We are a little disappointed, but Georgia is No. 3 in the nation and there is a reason they are ranked that high. The Redbirds next meet will be at home against Depaul January 31, at the Evergreen Raquet Club in Bloomington.
