Family issues have forced Nick Rohrer to withdraw from Illinois State University as well as the Redbird football team according to head coach Denver Johnson.
The freshman from Oak Creek, Wis., elected not to return to school for the spring semester. He participated in seven games for the Redbirds in 2002, totaling six tackles, two solo, on the season. Rohrer also had one sack against Gateway foe Youngstown State for a 3-yard loss.
Nick has elected not to return for the spring, Johnson said. He is facing some personal issues and has returned home to tend to a family situation.
He felt like it was in his best interest and obligation to his family to take a hiatus from school, at least at this time, to address those concerns. We tried to help him, counsel him, but we trust his judgement and the decision he has made. At this time, we are keeping Nick and his family in our thoughts and prayers.
In addition, wide receiver Kevin Thomas, who redshirted last season and never saw game action, opted to return home to the state of New Mexico.
