Redbird Swimmers Ready to Take to the Water in First Dual Meet of the Season

The Cardinals of Ball State visit Horton Pool Oct. 17, for a 6 p.m. meet against Illinois State. This competition is the first of the Birds two home meets this season, as well as their first dual meet of the year. Head coach Steve Paska expects the meet to be competitive and his Redbird squad to have enthusiasm to spare. Weve had two solid weeks of preparation for Friday, said Paska. It should be a competitive meet, Ball State has a deep team with good upperclassmen leadership, a good freshman class and just a very solid squad. One aspect unique to this particular meet is there will be 14 divers competing, as opposed to a smaller number customarily seen in a dual meet situation. Diving coach Carly Weiden does not see this as a problem, though. This meet will be a great experience for all of our divers, said Weiden. Having a dual meet with so many divers gives it more of a big meet feel, which is different, and will help our divers when we actually do get to those big invitationals. Paska believes this dual meet will serve as good preparation for the swimmers, as well, and has expressed positive sentiments about the team he has in the water. Im excited about this team, said Paska. Everyone is very enjoyable to work with, they all give 100% at every practice. The enthusiasm the girls have right now in practice should carry over into the Ball State meet. The 19-event competition begins at 6 p.m. at Horton Pool.
