Laura Gravino, of the Illinois State womens tennis team, failed to advance past the first round of the ITA Midwest Championship qualifying singles, Friday, in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Gravino dropped her first round match with Daytons Erin Kirkland, 6-1; 7-5, despite being ranked No. 5 going into the qualifying rounds.
All is not lost for the Birds, however, as both Liina Suuvarik and Katri Miller will represent the Birds in the main draw of the Midwest Championship.
Suurvarik will face Michigans Kara Delicata, and Miller will face Iowas Meg Racette Saturday at Western Michigan University, in Kalamazoo, Mich.
