Illinois State sophomore Stafford Davis earned the Gateway Football Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week honor after the Redbirds accumulated 604 total yards of offense in their 35-25 win at Youngstown State Saturday.
Davis finished the game with an 87 percent grade, including 98 percent on pass plays. A native of Orange Park, Fla., Davis helped pave the way for offensive player of the week Sha-Ron Edwards and LaShawn Bullock, who each rushed for 100-plus yards.
The Redbird left guard also protected quarterback Mike Souza, who passed for 271 yards, while connecting with Dwayne Smith six times for 118 yards. Davis finished the game with 12 knockdowns and did not allow a sack or a missed assignment.
Davis and the Redbirds return to action on Saturday at Hancock Stadium, to face No. 12 Western Illinois. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
