After participating in three tournaments over a span of 15 days, the ISU womens golf team was in need of a break. With no tournaments the past two weeks, the team got the rest it deserved and time away from the rigors of competition.
The Birds are now rested and ready for The Shootout at the Legends in Franklin, Ind. Oct 6-7. The Shootout field consists of 18 teams, nine in the top 50, and 14 of the 18 are ranked in the top 65 nationally. The Redbirds are 65th in the most recent rankings.
Head coach
Ray Kralis is looking forward to the opportunity to face such tough competition.
This is obviously a great opportunity for us to see 13 teams that are ranked ahead of us, Kralis said. But, with this loaded field, there is going to be a fine line separating the top of the field from the bottom.
The Shootout will present a challenge to the team and will give them an opportunity to improve upon its national ranking. It will also give them a chance at redemption against some of the teams they fell to just two weeks ago in the Mary Fossum Invitational.
Kralis hopes to use this opportunity to make a statement.
We have nothing to lose, Kralis said. This gives us a chance to make a statement in the central region.
The opening round of The Shootout at the Legends tees off 8 a.m. with 36 holes on Monday and concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday.
