Richdale Paces Birds to 12th at Shoot-out

Samantha Richdale and the Illinois State Womens Golf team finished day one of The Shoot-out at the Legends in 12th place. The Redbirds carded a two round total of 609 (310, 299) to keep pace with some of the toughest teams in the Central Region. Sophomore Samantha Richdale led the way for the Birds, shooting a 144 (74, 70), which places her in a tie for second individually. Richdale sits one shot behind individual leader Danah Ford of Indiana. Head coach Ray Kralis saw a lot of positives during the first two rounds. It was nice to see the ladies respond in the second round, Kralis said. Playing in a field as tough as this, every shot is critical. Kent State leads the shoot-out with a 578 (289, 289). The host Hoosiers are in second followed by TCU and Northwestern. Missouri and Arkansas are tied for fifth, followed by Nebraska, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Iowa and Texas A&M. Following the 12th place Birds are Minnesota, Illinois, and Toledo. Kansas and Campbell University are tied for 16th, while Eastern Michigan rounds out the field in 18th place. Kralis is optimistic heading into the final round. I saw a lot of positives today and we are showing that we can compete at this level, Kralis said. If we continue to take these positives strides and realize that every shot is important, this could be a turning point for the team. The Shoot-out at the Legends concludes Tuesday with play beginning at 8:30 a.m.
