Bull Leads Redbirds After One Day of Play in Shangri La Shootout

Denny Bull leads the Illinois State mens golf team with a 146 (69-77) good for an 11th place finish after the first day of play in the Shangri La Shootout in Tulsa, Okla. Head coach Harland Kilborn noticed Bull was on fire in the qualifyings preceeding this tournement and is excited to see his excellent play carry over. Denny kept his hot streak going and with a good round tomorrow he has a good chance of a top ten finish. Kilborn said. We just need everyone else together. Kris Wildenradt shot a 148 (74-74) to tie for 27th. Kyle Vasel fired a 152 (78-74) and tied for 54th while Brian Anderson tied for 60th with a score of 153 (77-76) on the day. Matt Maskel rounded out the team with a 156 (80-76) and tied for 69th. As a team the Birds shot a 598 (298-300) and sit in 10th place in the field of 18. Leading the Shootout is Austin Peay State University (569), followed by second place Oklahoma City University (583) and third place Southern Illinois (586). We set a goal as a team to shoot under par, if we do that we have a real chance to get close, Kilborn said. Tomorrow we will see what we are made of, it will determine if we will end the fall season on a positvie note or not. The Shangri La Shootout, hosted by Oral Roberts University, concludes with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
