In game four of the Media World Series, it was the split squad team led by seniors Todd Stein, Josh Kauten, and Nate Whitney, along with media manager Randy Reinhardt of The Pantagraph, picking up the win.
Reinhradt led his squad to a 6-2 win, as he was matched up against Lee Hall of WEEK-TV in Thursdays managerial matchup.
We were able to get some runs early and get some confidence going, said Reinhardt. With the way Eric Theisen and Brad Putney were pitching, you could tell we werent going to need many runs.
Theisen, a freshman from Adrian, Mich., picked up his teams first win of the week, allowing no runs through four. Brad Putney, a freshman from Joliet, Ill., came on and pitched the last three innings to secure the win.
Im afraid my hitting abilities may have rubbed off on these guys in the dugout, joked Hall. We couldnt get the bats going early and we made a couple mistakes defensively. With the way those two freshman were throwing the ball for Randys team, it made it tough.
We had two great pitching performances today from Theisen and Putney, said Illinois State head coach Jim Brownlee. The team that won the game today did what it takes, like good pitching and timely hitting. The team that lost really hurt themselves defensively with a few errors.
In tomorrows final day of the Media World Series, it will be local sports man Art Kimball taking on the Daily Vidette sports editor Nate Brown
