Redbird Swimmers and Divers Hungry for First Dual Meet Win of Season

The Redbirds visit Cedar Falls, Iowa Saturday, for a 2 p.m. meet against the Panthers. This marks the first meeting between Illinois State and Northern Iowa this season, as well as the Birds first conference match up. Head coach Steve Paska said his swimmers are healthy at this point in the season, and ready to face some competition other than their own teammates. Weve had the last three weeks to train and practice without a meet, said Paska. Most of the girls are 100 percent healthy, and I think theyre tired of racing each other in practice. Were 0-3 right now in our dual meets, so were looking to stop that losing skid. I think the girls are in a very good position to make a lot of things happen, and I expect a competitive meet with Northern Iowa. Diving coach Carly Weiden said the three week layover has provided her divers with quality practice time and a chance to continue improving their dives. At this point they have most of their dives learned, said Weiden. Now its just a matter of working out the small stuff and continuing to stay consistent. In spite of the high level of success the divers have experienced so far this season, Weiden said the team isnt having trouble staying motivated, and working hard. These girls all have goals, and are ready to work hard every practice to reach them, said Weiden. They push themselves and each other, and motivate each other to succeed. The Redbirds and Panthers take the water at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
