The Illinois State swimming and diving team posted big numbers in a 2 p.m. contest Saturday, beating the Panthers of Northern Iowa 201-91. Kyle Pullman had first place finishes in the 50 freestyle (24.91) and 100 freestyle (54.97), as well as anchoring two first-place relay teams. Head coach Steve Paska glad to see so many contributing in the teams success. I was very pleased with how we competed tonight, said Paska. Weve got some newcomers who are really performing well and having a great start to their careers at Illinois State. This meet was a good indicator of what we need to work on before we travel to Akron in December. The Illinois State divers took all three top spots in the one-meter and three-meter for the second time this season. Terra Whisman (237.37) won the one-meter event, edging teammate Krystal Featherston(235.95) who finished second, with Alison Kouba (208.20) taking third. Featherston and Whisman traded spots in the three-meter with Featherston (240.37) claiming first, Whisman (231.82) in second, and Kouba (210.00) repeating in third. Diving coach Carly Weiden was happy to see her divers have such success. Everyone did really well, especially on the one-meter, tonight, said Weiden. Theyve all been making some changes these past couple weeks and it was good to see them put it all together in this meet. Other Redbirds posting strong performances included Katie Finan with a first-place finish in the 200 free--posting a season-best of 1.57.88, Jamie Haseman with personal bests in the 500 free (5.19.41) and 200 fly (2.11.24), and Emily Steffen with season bests in the 100 fly (1.02.41) and 100 backstroke (1.05.50). The Redbirds return to the water for the Akron Invitational December 4-6.
