Former Redbird softball player Abbie Scott was honored for her academic achievements Sunday night during the 2003 State Farm Student-Athlete Academic Excellence Banquet.
Scott was named Illinois State Female Scholar Athlete of the Year for her work in the classroom and on the playing field during the 2002-03 academic year.
Scott, a senior outfielder from Macomb, Ill., ended her Redbird career in the spring of this year. She was a 2002 all-Missouri Valley pick and is also involved in numerous community service projects such as Habitat for Humanity, Just Read, Developmental Softball Clinics and Christmas Program for Disadvantaged Children.
Scott is also a Bone Scholar recipient, an AFNI Honor Role member, and holds a 3.97 cumulative GPA in Psychology. She is a member of the Psychology National Honor Society, and was recognized by the Missouri Valley Conference by winning the Presidents and Commissioners Academic Excellence Awards.
