Suurvarik Picks Up Two at Western Michigan Invitational

Liina Suurvarik leads the way for the Illinois State womens tennis team, picking up two singles victories one day after becoming the all-time leader in career doubles wins for the Redbirds. Suurvarik started the day downing DePauls Gergana Ganeva in straight sets 7-6, 6-3. She then took on Western Michigans Frederika Girsang, ousting her 7-6(5), 1-6, 1-0(9). Suurvarik currently has 13 singles victories this season and 111 career singles victories. The freshman Katri Miller was the only other Bird to pick up a win as she dropped Marina Parashkevova 6-4, 6-4. Miller breezed through her second match over Western Michigans Reedhina Parekh 6-2, 6-3. The Redbirds will wrap up the Western Michigan Invitational Sunday at the West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo, Mich. -- 30 --
