Senior guard Desiree Gutierrez has left the Illinois State basketball team. She told coach Robin Pingeton that she plans to return to her home in Thornton, Colo.
We are disappointed that Des has decided to go home, said Pingeton, but we wish her nothing but the best for the future.
The 5-foot-6 Gutierrez, who transferred to Illinois State from Western Nebraska Community College in 2002, played in 31 of 32 games during her time at Illinois State, averaging 2.8 points and 1.8 assists per game.
The Redbirds next game is at 2:05 p.m. Sunday against Illinois-Chicago in Redbird Arena.
