Bird Golfers Set for Practice in Sunny Florida

The Illinois State mens golf team will be heading to Sarasota, Fla., February 14-16, for their yearly visit to the Interlachen Country Club. Three days of sunny courses and warm weather await the Redbirds, who are getting their first chance to practice outdoors since the fall. According to head coach Harland Kilborn the trip to Florida will be just what the team needs before jump-starting the spring competition season the week they return. This will be a great opportunity for us to go down there and practice, said Kilborn. Right now we havent had a chance to get outside at all, and when we come back we leave right away for a tournament in San Antonio. Without that weekend in Florida it would be really difficult to be prepared for San Antonio with the weather we have here. Besides valuable practice time, the Florida trip will also serve to give Kilborn an idea of who his regular five competitors might be from week to week. Obviously right now were not having any qualifying based on the weather, said Kilborn. But when we get to Florida, and then after San Antonio and spring break Ill have a pretty good idea of who the top five are. Upon their return from Florida the Redbirds open spring tournament play February 24-26 when they head to San Antonio, Texas to compete in the UTSA Invitational.
