Angie Rawlins holds the top times in the Missouri Valley in the 50 free and 100 breast and teammate Krystal Featherston ranks as the top diver on the 3-meter board as the Illinois State swimming and diving team heads to Carbondale to compete in the MVC Championships Thursday through Saturday, February 22.
Teammates Monique Witkowski and Dana Rosinski join Rawlins ranking in the 50 free as they hold the third and eighth fastest times, respectively. Witkowski, just a freshman, also posts the fourth best time in the 100 free (53.85) which is just shy of the top spot held by Southwest Missouris Erica Norgren (53.40).
Illinois State head coach
Steve Paska realizes his Redbirds havent faced every team in the Valley this season, but he still knows what to expect from them.
Were familiar with them, weve had dual meets and shoot-outs with almost all of them over the past years, said Paska. There are some strategic maneuvers to determine how to score the most points, and thats where the team concept comes in.
The Illinois State divers are looking to help contribute to the team point total this weekend as all seven divers will be competing on both boards, and they look to fare well as the Birds hold the top four spots in the Valley on the 3-meter board.
Diver Krystal Featherston has posted the top score on the 3-meter (264.23) while her best score on the 1-meter board this season is good enough for a second-place ranking in the Valley.
Illinois State, 3-3 in dual meets 3-8, placed fourth at the MVC Championships last season.
