Redbird Soccer to Compete in Valparaiso Indoor Tournament

The Illinois State womens soccer team is headed to Merrillville, Ind., to compete in the Valparaiso Indoor Tournament on Saturday, February 22. The teams in the tournament are divided into two groups. The Redbirds are in Group Two competing against Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne, Green White Spirit (a club team from Chicago) and Bloomington Football Club. Group One includes Valparaiso, Loyola, Mystique (a club team from Northwest Indiana) and St. Francis. Illinois State will face Bloomington Football Club at 11:15 a.m., Green White Spirit at 2:15 p.m., and Indiana-Purdue at FW at 4:30 p.m. The semi-final game #1 will take place at 6:30 p.m., while semi-final game #2 will kick off at 7:15 p.m. The championship match is slated for 8:15 p.m. This is another opportunity for us to see some competition and improve upon last weekends tournament at Illinois, said head coach Pete Kowall. We need to focus on our composure on the ball, as well as scoring and finishing. The scoring for the tournament is as follows: six points for a win, three points for a tie and zero for a loss. One point will be given for each goal up to three per game and one point given for a shut-out. The top two teams, based on accumulated points, from each group will advance into the semi-final round.
