Redbird Swimming Sets Two School, Meet Records at MVC Championships

Illinois States Julie Cocks set a school and meet record in the100 fly and the 200 medley relay team composed of Andrea Neubauer, Angie Rawlins, Cocks and Monique Witkowski broke both records as the Redbirds sit in second place after day two of the Missouri Valley Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in Carbondale. Cocks time of 56.41 in the 100 fly breaks the old Illinois State record of 57.32 set by Sara Jane Turek in 1990. The 200 medley time of 1:45.91 breaks the old 1995 record time of 1:47.02. On the diving side, Krystal Featherston won the 3-meter board after posting a score good enough to qualify her for the NCAA Zone C Meet in March. Featherston swept both boards at the MVC Championships after winning the 1-meter board last night. She had already qualified for Zone Meet on the 1-meter board back in January against Illinois-Chicago. Fellow diver Terra Whisman picked up a second-place finish on the 3-meter board, while teammates Emily Hirt was fifth, Emily LaVoie sixth and Kaitlin Schneider eighth. With the diving competitions over, the MVC Championships conclude tomorrow with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m.
