Redbird Soccer Wins Valparaiso Indoor Tournament

The Illinois State womens soccer team won five games at the Valparaiso Indoor Soccer Tournament, allowing only one goal on the day, to claim the tournament title, Saturday night. In the first game, Illinois State shut out the Bloomington Football Club to claim the 5-0 victory. Redbirds Michelle Brumbaugh and Taylor Casement each scored one goal, while Diana Puckett claimed the rest of the goals with a hat trick. The Redbirds beat the Green White Spirit Club, 6-0, with goals from Katie Long, Heather Forsyth, Tiffany DeClark, Chrystal Johnston, Robyn Brady and Brumbaugh. They continued their winning ways by overtaking Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne with the 2-0 victory. Long and Puckett each scored one goal in the Redbird win. Illinois State qualified for the semi-finals against Loyola, and took the 2-1 win, again with goals scored by Puckett and Long. The tournament title was Illinois States after the 2-0 victory over IPFW, with goals by Puckett and Brumbaugh. Assistant coach Pete Cuadrado gave credit to the two Redbird goalkeepers, Allison Farrington and Cheryl Sarnwick, who split time in the net, for allowing only one goal on the day.
