Former Redbird Named to Indiana Silver Anniversary Team

Dale White, who lettered for the Illinois State mens basketball team from 1978-82, was selected to the 2003 Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Silver Anniversary team as one of 15 players that stared as a prep in the state of Indiana in 1978. In his four-year collegiate career with the Redbirds, White averaged 7.1 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. The two-time co-captain, was a member of the 1979-80 Illinois State team that finished 20-9 and advanced to the National Invitation Tournament. He was also a member of the 1981-82 squad, which was the first to play in the Missouri Valley Conference. As a member of the 2003 Silver Anniversary team, White will become eligible as a candidate for induction into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in future years. The team will be honored on Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at the annual banquet which will be held at the Primo Banquet Hall in Indianapolis. For ticket information, please call (765) 529-1891. White was 59-9 during his three-year varsity career at Covington High School, with three straight undefeated seasons in the Wabash River Conference. He set a national scholastic record by making 32 consecutive field goal attempts over a five-game period as a junior. In one game of that span, White was 14-of-14 from the floor, 8-of-8 from the free throw line and had 27 rebounds in a victory over Benton Central, a school three times the size of Covington. White averaged 22.4 points and 15.3 rebounds over a three-year prep career. He also carried a field goal percentage a .691 during that time. He was named to the Junior All-State first team and was a three-year all-sectional and all-conference pick.
