'Birds to Face Saint Louis and Northern Illinois This Weekend

In Greg Kennetts four years at Illinois State he has never lost to Saint Louis University or Northern Illinois, and he plans to extend those streaks this weekend. That is not to say that the weekend will be a breeze for the Birds. They are good teams that have excellent top players, but I feel that we will do very good this weekend, said Kennett. After not advancing a single player to the championship round of the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships, the Birds had last week off, and coach Kennett feels that the off-week could not have come at a better time for his squad. We were pretty banged up after the MVCs, said Kennett. Some of our guys shoulders were bothering them, and Djordje Uskokovics knee has been nagging him. The offweek really helped those problems. Despite his knee injury, Uskokovic will have one of the toughest matchups this weekend against Saint Louis No. 1 player, Ikaika Jobe. Ikaika is one of the most promising players in the country, but Djordje is as talented as anybody, expressed Kennett. Singles and doubles lineups will remain the same for the Birds as they have for the entire spring season with Uskokovic holding down the No. 1 singles postion and Uskokovic and Ben Pettinari playing in the No.1 doubles spot. The Birds will face off against St. Louis University Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Northern Illinois Saturday, at 2 p.m., at the Evergreen Raquet Club in Bloomington, Ill. -- ## --
