Birds Battle Citadel, Charleston

This week the Illinois State mens tennis team will attempt to bring its record above the .500 mark against The Citadel, Tuesday at 2 p.m., in Charleston, S.C. The Birds will then travel across town for a match with the College of Charleston, Wednesday at 2 p.m. The doubles teams have been consistant and successful all season, but in their last competition against Western Michigan they struggled, going without a win. Despite their struggles against Western Michigan the Birds doubles teams are still well above the .500 mark this spring season,17-12 (.586), with Ben Pettinari and Djordje Uskokovic holding down the #1 spot for the most of spring season. Coach Greg Kennett has expressed to his team the importance of doubles matches all season, and realizes that the doubles point is one the keys to a successful match for the Birds. A lot of times, if we get off to a slow start in the doubles competition, it can affect the way that we play in our singles matches, said Kennett.
