Redbird Tennis Wins at The Citadel

The Illinois State mens tennis team picked up a hard-fought victory over The Citadel, 4-3, Tuesday in Charleston, South Carolina at Earle Tennis Center. The Redbirds and the Bulldogs split the singles matches with three points each, but Illinois State secured the victory by winning the doubles point. Illinois States Djordje Uskokovic was defeated at the No. 1 spot by Matt Stubbs in three sets, but Ben Cappuccitti staked claim to a victory at the No. 2 spot with a 6-4, 6-4 win over The Citadels John Williams. Marek Blaskovic continued the Redbirds winning ways with a victory in the No. 3 spot over Lawrence Tere, 6-2, 7-5. Redbird Ben Pettinari was defeated in the No. 4 slot in three sets, while Ciaran Foley picked up the Illinois State win at No. 5, 6-1, 6-2. Illinois States Emmanual Ponce lost, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 6 to Warren Woolfolk. Blaskovic and Cappucitti defeated Stubbs and Williams, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles. In the No. 2 spot, Uskokovic and Pettinari paired up to beat Woolfolk and Sebastian Pardon, 8-1. Foley and Andy Martin lost at No. 3, 8-2, to Medica and Tere. The Redbirds return to action on Wednesday, to face the College of Charleston at 2 p.m. --##--
