Hoover Shuffles Lineup, Birds Win 9-0

After injuries left his lineup short-handed late last season, Illinois State women's tennis coach Chris Hoover was determined to build depth this season. Illinois State's 9-0 win over Chaminade at the Hale Kao Tennis Courts in Hawaii makes him feel like that goal has been reached. "We mixed the lineup, paired some different people in doubles and got everybody a chance to play," said Hoover, whose team lost just 12 toal games in as many sets in singles play. "I am very pleased with the results." Freshman Ashley Maxwell and junior college transfer Dasha Cizkova played No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, and both came out winners. Senior Alana Hoffman played No. 1 singles for the first time this season. "After last year, I wanted to make sure we had depth," said Hoover. "Now, we'll go back to playing our best lineups and get ready to finish the trip with some momentum." Next up for ISU is Hawaii-Pacific, ranked No. 16 at Division II, followed by the Hawaii Rainbows to end the trip to the islands. On the way back to Normal, the Redbirds will stop at Lincoln, Neb. to play No. 54 Nebraska and No. 71 Eastern Michigan.
