Ciaran Foley was the lone Redbird to pick up a win in singles, while Marek Blaskovic paired with Ben Cappuccitti to pick up the only win in doubles action, Wednesday, in the Illinois State mens tennis teams loss to the College of Charleston, 6-1.
Foley defeated Artie Peller at No. 5 singles, in two sets, 7-5, 6-2, while the duo of Blaskovic and Cappuccitti, at No. 2 doubles, defeated Eyal Omid and Liran Kling of the College of Charleston, 8-5.
Redbird Djordje Uskokovic lost at No. 1 singles in a super-tie-breaker, while Cappuccitti lost at No. 2 in three sets. Blaskovic lost in two sets at No. 3, as did Ben Pettinari at No. 5 and Andy Martin at No. 6.
In doubles action, Pettinari and Uskokovic lost at No. 1, 8-4, while Martin paired with Foley for the No. 3 spot and lost 8-2.
Head coach Greg Kennett was disappointed with the loss to the College of Charleston.
We continue to struggle in the third sets, and I think we need to get tougher mentally under pressure, said Kennett. We had some opportunities but we just couldnt finish.
