For the second year in a row, Illinois State diver Krystal Featherston has advanced to the NCAA Zone C Diving Meet on both the one and three-meter boards hosted by Miami University (Ohio)in Akron, Ohio, on Friday and Saturday, March 15-16.
Featherston, a sophomore, is the lone Redbird diver advancing to the Zone C Meet. She qualified on the 1-meter board on January 23rd against Illinois-Chicago after winning with a score of 259.88. A score of 255.00 is needed to qualify. She advanced on the 3-meter board at the Missouri Valley Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on February 21st after posting a score of 264.23.
The Kokomo Ind. native competed on both boards at the meet last season, finishing 42nd on the one-meter and capturing 29th place on the three-meter. This year Featherston may move up in the rankings as the Redbirds have already competed at Miami University this season, making for a more comfortable setting for Featherston to get used to.
She did fairly well at the invite early in the season, said Illinois State diving coach Laura Segerlin. She has experience competing in Miamis facility and has confidence going back there.
The two-day meet begins with the 3-meter competition on Friday and 1-meter taking place Saturday. Preliminary rounds begin in the morning sessions with the top 18 divers advancing to the finals.
