The doubles teams for Illinois State mens tennis (6-6, 1-1 MVC) swept the doubles competition against Indiana State(7-6, 2-0 MVC), but it would be the only point the Redbirds would earn, as they lost 6-1, today in Terre Haute, Ind.
The Redbirds started the afternoon clicking on all cylinders, with Djordje Uskokovic and Ben Pettinari defeating Henry Choi and David OConnell in the No. 1 doubles spot 8-4. The duo of Jason Smit and Ciaran Foley won a close match in the No. 2 position over Lovre Brajkovic and Vedran Vidovic 9-8. To complete the doubles sweep, Ben Cappuccitti and Marek Blaskovic beat Dmytro Ishtuganov and Ionut Hurduc 6-2, 6-0.
The momentum that the Birds built in the doubles matches did not carry over to the singles competition, as Indiana State won every singles point. Playing in the No. 1 singles position, Vidovic beat Cappuccitti 6-2, 7-5. In the No. 2 spot, Choi outlasted Smit 6-3, 5-7, 6-1. Brajkovic claimed the victory in the No. 3 spot over Uskovkovic,6-1, 7-6. In the No. 4 position OConnell was victorious over Illinos States Blaskovic 6-3, 4-6, 6-0. Ishtuganov took the No. 2 singles match over Pettinari 6-7, 6-3, 7-5. Indiana State completed the singles sweep when Ivan DArgence defeated Foley 6-3, 0-6, 6-3.
The Birds will return to the courts for the UCI Anteater Classic, in Irivine Calif., March 27-30.
