Junior Brian Anderson led the way for the Illinois State mens golf team, placing in a tie for fourth at the Stevenson Ranch Invitational in Stevinson, Cal. Anderson finished out the tournament with a season-best 215 (72-70-73) three-round stroke total, en route to the highest individual placement for the Redbirds.
Junior Walter Brown ended the tourney in a tie for 45th-place, after carding a 73 in the final round to finish with a three-round total of 226 (76-77-73). Following Brown was sophomore Kyle Vasel who finished in a tie for 59th after shooting a total of 231 (82-73-76) in the three rounds played. Junior Denny Bull finished close behind in 62nd-place after carding a tournament total of 233 (73-81-79), followed by freshman Chris Eddy who rounded out the five-man roster finishing in a tie for 64th with a three-round score of 235 (88-72-75).
As a team the Redbirds finished the tourney in 11th-place out of 14 teams. The Birds posted a team total of 892 (303-292-297) strokes.
Taking the team title for the tourney was Pacific, who finished with a score of 866 (296-288-282), to win the competition by six strokes. Kansas State finished in second-place, carding an 872 (286-287-299), followed by Valley foe Wichita State in third with a score of 875 (286-293-296). Finishing in fourth-place wa s UC-Irvine with a three round total of 876 (286-302-288), CSU-Stanislaus (288-296-296) tied with Missouri (295-294-291) to finish the tourney in a tie for fifth-place, each scoring a tournament total 880 strokes.
Matt Hansen, of Pacific, was the individual medalist of the tournament finishing with a three-round total of 208 (70-70-68).
The Redbirds resume competitive golf action when they travel to Branson, Mo. for the Branson Creek Invititational April 7-8.
