Illinois State junior Brian Anderson was named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week after his fourth-place finish in the Stevinson Ranch Invitational, March 24-25, in Stevenson, Calif.
Anderson, a native of Rochester, Ill., shot a three-round score of 215, a new personal season-best. After the first days competition his two-round score of 142 was good enough for third place, and placed him just two strokes behind the leader. Day two saw Anderson slip one place to finish in a tie for fourth after shooting a 73 on the day.
Head coach Harland Kilborn felt Andersons true skills shone through in this tournament, more so than in previous competitions this season.
He was driving the ball real well, said Kilborn. He kept the ball in play and he really felt comfortable on the greens. He struggled with putting earlier this year, but has made some adjustments and really feels good about it now.
Kilborn was also pleased with Andersons play of late, and confident he will carry his success into the teams next competition.
Were all excited for Brian, said Kilborn. I think hes going into our next tournament with enough confidence to possibly take the title down there. I think everybody is going to be looking for him next week, hell be the main guy, and I think hell live up to it.
