After a disappointing week in which the Illinois State baseball team dropped five games, including a pair of 4-3 losses to Missouri and Wichita State, Jim Brownlee expects his team to use Tuesdays 3 p.m., non-conference game against Eastern Illinois at Redbird Field as an opportunity to change momentum heading to Carbondale, Ill., Friday to take on Missouri Valley Conference rival Southern Illinois.
The weather should be nice and that will make for a great day at the ballpark, said Brownlee. Winning is contagious, but unfortunately so is losing, so we need to take advantage of being at home and get a win before heading to Carbondale. Our guys need to get after it and get the team back on the right track.
Freshman Brady Salter (0-2) will get the start for Illinois State. Despite his winless record, Salter leads the team in ERA with 1.84 in 14.2 innings of work this season. He only has one start against Pennsylvania in 2003, but seven previous appearances on the mound.
The Panthers are currently 8-13 overall, including a 1-6 record on the road. Eastern Illinois defeated Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne in three of the four games in their series last weekend.
The Eastern Illinois game will not be available on WJBCs webcast. However, all four games of this weekends series with Southern Illinois will be available on the Internet via WJBC.
