Liina Suurvariks stellar play for the Illinois State womens tennis team this season has earned her a national ranking of No. 33 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Suurvarik will lead the Redbirds into Hawaii for five meets between Saturday through Wednesday.
The Redbirds start their trip taking on Brigham Young-Hawaii at 2 p.m., Saturday at Kailau Racquet Club. Sunday the Redbirds will compete against Hawaii-Hilo. Slated next for the Birds will be Chaminade at 4 p.m., on Monday at the Hale Kao tennis courts. Redbirds will then take on Hawaii-Pacific at 10 a.m., on Tuesday at the Oahu Club. The last meet for the Redbirds on the trip will be against Hawaii at 3 p.m., Wednesday at the Central Oahu Regional Park.
Head coach Chris Hoover knows he faces a tough challenge going to Hawaii and playing all those good teams.
We have to play a lot of matches against some good schools, Hoover said. We are just have to go there and take care of business and hopefully we can improve our record.
The Redbirds begin their spring break taking on Brigham Young-Hawaii at 2 p.m., Saturday at the Kailau Racquet Club. All times are Hawaii standard time which is four hours behind central standard time.
