The Illinois State womens tennis team extended their winning streak to eight consecutive victories Wednesday when they blanked Bradley, 7-0. The win keeps the Birds undefeated in the Missouri Valley Conference with 7-0 record, and 13-7 overall.
In singles play, the Redbirds breezed by Bradley not dropping a set. Liina Suurvarik led the way by ousting Ashley Morris 6-0, 6-0, in No. 1 position. Alesia Mikalayeva was able to hold down the No. 2 spot by dropping Kelly Wood 6-1, 6-0. Laura Gravino kept up her spectacular play by not dropping a game in her win over Jessie Paterson 6-0, 6-0, in No. 3 singles.
At No. 4 singles, Emilie Sechaud was able to get past Nicole Kirley 6-0, 6-1. In Alana Hoffmans second straight outing she breezed by Marrisa Branchi 6-1, 6-0, in the No. 5 position. In the No. 6 position Shelby Lipson kept her winning streak alive downing Abbie Olson 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles, the dynamic duo of Mikalayeva and Suurvarik were able to drop Morris and Wood, 8-0, in No. 1 spot. In No. 2 doubles, Gravino and Hoffman continued to stay undefeated in the Valley with a 8-0 win over Kirley and Robertson. In No. 3 doubles, Lipson and Ashley Maxwell breezed by Paterson and Branchi, 8-4.
The Redbirds will finish up regular season play when they go on a two meet road trip to take on Evansville, Saturday, April 18, at 3 p.m., and Southern Illinois, April 19, at 10 a.m.
