The Illinois State baseball heads to Muncie, Ind., this weekend for a four-game, non-conference series against the Ball State Cardinals at Ball Diamond Field.
The first game of the series begins at 3 p.m. Friday. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 19, at 1 p.m. and wrap up the series on Sunday with 1 p.m. match-up.
Illinois State is currently 11-19 overall and have won their last two games, consecutive shutouts over Evansville (11-0) and Western Illinois (9-0). Ball State comes into Fridays game with a 23-10 record and also riding a two-game winning streak with victories over Anderson (30-12) and Butler (6-5) respectively.
Our bye week in the Missouri Valley Conference could not have come at a better time, said Jim Brownlee, Illinois State head baseball coach. Two of our starters (Chris Shepherd and Kevin ODell) are banged up and this will give them a chance to rest before we resume league play next weekend (against Northern Iowa).
Ball State is having a good season and this will be a good test for our team, continued Brownlee. We have just started a 10-game road swing and got the first one at Western Illinois yesterday (Wednesday), so hopefully we can keep this rhythm that we have created.
The Ball State series will not be available on WJBCs webcast. However, Tuesdays 6:35 p.m game against Illinois in Champaign will be broadcasted via the Internet.
