Illinois State Softball Returns to Valley Action Against Creighton

Head coach Melinda Fischer and the Illinois State softball team head to Omaha, Nebraska this weekend for a three-game series against the Creighton Bluejays, April 19-20, at the Creighton Sports Complex. The Missouri Valley match-up will begin with Saturdays noon doubleheader and will conclude with a single-game Sunday beginning at noon. The Redbirds are coming off two non-conference mid-week victories, Tuesdays 5-0 win over Western Illinois and Wednesdays 1-0 win over Northern Illinois. Illinois State improved its record to 23-17 and is No. 1 in the Valley with a 14-2 record. The Birds lead the overall series against Creighton, 22-12. The Bluejays have won their last five Valley contests and dropped a 4-2 loss to No. 5 Nebraska on April 16. Creighton is 13-19 overall and is No. 7 in the Valley with an 8-9 record. Fischer will build off the latest Redbird victories to continue to make Illinois States presence in the Valley known. Creighton is a tremendous program that is having a lot of success right now, said Fischer. They are coming off five consecutive Valley wins and played a tough game against Nebraska. We are going to have to stay focused and play the way that we are capable of playing.
