Freshman Kristopher Wildenradt led the way for the Illinois State mens golf team, posting a fourth-place tie at the Bullet Illinois State Intercollegiate in Huntley, Ohio. Wildenradt shot a score of 76 (36-40) in the one-round tournament, and led the 27-man field in first-place after the front nine, after a 36-shot performance.
Sophomore Kyle Vasel also finished in the top 10, posting a score of 77 (40-37) to finish in a ninth-place tie. Junior Brian Anderson posted a 79 to finish in a tie for 16th, while junior Dustin Edwards tied for 18th after carding an 81. Junior Denny Bull rounded out the traveling, five scoring an 83, and placing in a tie for 21st.
As a team the Redbirds posted a score of 313 to finish in fourth-place out of five teams.
Taking medalist honors for the tourney was Andy Mickelson of Valley foe Bradley, after carding a 73 on the day. Tournament host Northern Illinois took the team title after scoring a 302. Northern Illinois also finished with four golfers in the top five.
Other finishers in the team competition were the University of Loyola-Chicago in second with a 308, followed by Bradley in third with a 309. Illinois State finished in fourth, while Augustana rounded out the five-team field with a score of 324.
The Redbirds return to golf action when they head to Silvis, Ill., for the Missouri Valley mens golf championship tournament. The tourney kicks off April 28 at the TPC at Deere Run, where the Birds will look to defend their Valley crown.
