Fourteen Redbird Student-Athletes To Attend Leadershape

Fourteen Illinois State student-athletes have been selected to attend Leadershape, a conference designed to help develop leadership skills in students through training and problem solving activities. The program will be held in Zion, Ill., from May 13-18. Participating student-athletes include: Kory Anderson (football), Marcus Arnold (basketball), Amy Biedenharn (gymnastics), Nicole Bishop (gymnastics), Ryan Brown (mens golf), Niall Campbell (football), Janiah Downing (football), Megan Goetting (gymnastics), Sara Groves (swimming), Courtney Johnson (gymnastics), Joe Pantoja (football), Matt Pezdek (football), Amber Rogers (volleyball) and Sara Stevenson (basketball). Leadershape will be comprised of 60 student leaders from a variety of groups across the Illinois State campus. The sixty students will be divided into five groups of 12 and each group will be led by a facilitator, a staff member from Illinois State. At the conference, the students will learn how to commit to a vision, create a partnership to assist in bringing the vision into a reality, and sustain a high level of integrity. Participants return enthusiastic and motivated to be exceptional leaders in the campus and local community. I was a facilitator for Leadershape three years ago and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life, said Jane Fulton, assistant athletics director for academics and life skills. The students learned how to prioritize goals and how to step up and become a good leader.
