In the first round of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament the Illinois State womens tennis team did not drop set in its 4-0 defeat over Evansville Friday, in Springfield, Mo.
The No. 1 seeded Birds stayed perfect in the Valley with a 10-0 record, and 16-7 overall. Liina Suurvarik led the way in singles by dropping Jessica Jetton 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 1 position. At No. 2 singles Alesia Mikalayeva ousted Rachel Tessier 6-1, 6-1. At No. 3 spot, Laura Gravino continued to stay hot by not dropping a game in her win over Brooke Hoener 6-0, 6-0.
Doubles matches were not played due to time constraints.
The Redbirds will continue their run to the Valley championship taking on No. 4 Drake in the semifinals Saturday, at 12 p.m.
