The Illinois State womens soccer team defended its turf as the Redbirds won the Illinois State Invitational, held today at Adelaide Street Field and Hancock Stadium.
The Redbirds took the victory from Western Illinois, 4-0, and advanced to the championship game. Senior Annie Wayland scored the first Redbird goal, followed by goals from Katie Long, Heather Forsyth and Taylor Casement.
Valaparaiso and the Bloomington Football Club took the field at 5 p.m., with Valpo advancing to the championship game with the 4-1 victory. Western Illinois took the consolation game with the 3-0 win over Bloomington FC.
Illinois State claimed the tournament title over Valpo with the 4-1 victory. Wayland, Long, Michelle Brumbaugh and Joyce Kleinheinz contributed goals the Redbird win.
