Illinois State baseball head coach Jim Brownlee is hoping that Mother Nature will bring in some good weather Wednesday so that his team can play a much needed game against Iowa at Redbird Field. The non-conference match-up is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
I really hope we get a chance to play Iowa tomorrow, because we cant afford to lose any more games to the weather, said Brownlee. Brady (Salter) needs to get some innings in, but Mother Nature has cost us quite a lot of games and quality practice time already this season. We just have to get out of our recent funk and take care of the nagging injuries that have been plagueing us this year. I think the Iowa game would help us accomplish these goals.
Iowa is currently 8-13 overall and 2-6 in the Big Ten Conference. The Hawkeyes are coming off a four-game conference series with Indiana last weekend in which they dropped three of four games. Freshman Brady Salter (0-2) will get his third start of the season on the mound for the Redbirds.
Wednesdays game with Iowa will be available on WJBCs webcast starting at 5:30 p.m. with Aaron Johnston providing the play-by-play. Fans can log on to the webcast from either www.redbirds.org or at www.wjbc.com.
The Redbirds are currently 9-15 overall with a 3-8 record in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Redbirds have already had six games cancelled or postponed due to inclement weather thus far this season.
