Dave Macdonald, a sophomore left-hander from Downers Grove, Ill., was named the
Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week Monday following his performance in Illinois States four-game sweep of Bradley over the weekend.
Macdonald appeared in three games against Bradley earning a victory and a save. In game one, he pitched four innings of two-hit relief to earn the win and improve his overall record to 2-0. In game three on Sunday, May 11, he fired 3.1 innings of no-hit relief en route to his first save of the season.
Macdonald was so effective late in game three that he earned his first start of the season for the fourth and final game of the series also on Sunday, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing only three runs.
Obviously, Dave is very deserving of this recognition, said Illinois State head coach Jim Brownlee. He really stepped up big for the team this weekend against Bradley and helped us keep our chances of making the conference tournament alive.
Illinois State faces league-leading Southwest Missouri State Thursday to start its final, four-game Valley series of the regular season.
