Accardo Named to ABCA All-Midwest Squad

Illinois State senior Jeremy Accardo may be in Alaska playing baseball this summer, but the Redbird is still receiving recognition in the midwest, as he was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-Midwest Region Second Team. Accardo, along with fellow senior Kyle Zaleski, are both playing for Athletes in Action of the Alaska Baseball League this summer before returning to Illinois State for their senior seasons. The shortstop from Mesa, Arizona was second on the team in hitting (.333) and first on the team in saves (4). During the 2003 baseball campaign, Accardo became the all-time saves leader in Redbird baseball, with 12, surpassing Tim Hallams (76) previous Redbird high of 9. Accardo also posted a 4-2 record in 2003 for Jim Brownlees Redbirds. He was named the Illinois State Baseball Team Most Valuable player for his efforts in 2003, and also earned First-team All-Missouri Valley honors as a shortstop. Accardo was one of 10 Missouri Valley Conference players named to the two squads
