After an outstanding summer of baseball in Alaska, Jeremy Accardo has signed a free agent contract to play professional baseball for the San Francisco Giants.
Accardo pitched this summer for the Athletes in Action baseball team in the Alaska Summer Baseball League. Accardo played both pitcher and shortstop, and was clocked in the mid-90s by scouts.
The Mesa, Arizona native will leave the Redbird program after three years. Accardo was coming off arguably his best season, when he hit .333 with six home runs and 31 RBI. As a pitcher, Accardo led the team with four saves and posted a record of 4-2, with an ERA of 5.94.
His four saves in the 2003 season made Accardo the all-time saves leader in Illinois State history, with a carrer total of 12.
Accardo was named the 2003 Illinois State Baseball Team Most Valuable Player. He was also a first-team All-Missouri Valley shortstop and a second-team member of the ABCA All-Midwest squad.
