Donovans 20 Points Lead Canada to Victory

Katie Donovans 20-point effort led the Canadian young womens basketball team to a 99-41 win over South Africa in the 2003 Summer Universiade tournament. Donovan, a junior at Illinois State University, led the Canadian team to its first win after two losses in the tournament, taking place in Daegu, South Korea. Donovan, a native of Kingston, Ontario, helped her team shoot 59 percent from the field and 44 percent from the free throw line. Donovans seven rebounds contributed to a 50-29 edge on the backboards for the Canadian team. She has led her team in scoring and rebounding in two of three games in the tournament. The tournament continues Tuesday, with Canada facing Mexico in pool play.
